With origins in China, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been practiced and evolved over the course of thousands of years. TCM is specifically rooted in the ancient philosophy of Taoism and dates back more than 2,500 years.  Many traditional systems of medicine exist in East and South Asian countries, such as Japan and Korea. TCM is an underlying influence in the implications of these systems, but each has its own distinctive features and characteristics.

The practice of TCM uses herbal medicines and a variety of mind and body practices to treat or prevent health concerns. Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses many different practices, including acupuncture, moxibustion, Chinese herbal medicine, tui na (Chinese therapeutic massage), dietary therapy, and tai chi and qi gong (practices that combine specific movements or postures, coordinated breathing, and mental focus). These therapeutic modalities can be used by health-conscious individuals as a complementary health approach for treating or preventing health issues.
