FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is acupuncture safe?
Yes. Acupuncturists use sterile, disposable needles and are required to complete comprehensive training for licensure. Your safety is assured.

Is acupuncture painful?
Acupuncture needles are very thin and hair fine. Most people do not find the insertion of such hair fine needles to be painful. This is why acupuncture feels nothing like getting a shot or having blood drawn.

How many treatments are needed and how often?
Patients should discuss their treatment plan with Stephanie at the appointment. Treatment length typically varies from patient to patient and can depend on a number of factors including the complexity or length of your condition. Each patient is unique!

Should I eat right before or after my acupuncture/massage?
It is suggested that you eat a light meal or snack 1-2 hours before your treatment to avoid dizziness. In the hours following your acupuncture, lighter fare is suggested so that your body may continue to enjoy the benefits without having to divert energy for digestion.

What should I wear during my treatment?
For acupuncture treatments you can wear loose clothing.

Why do I need to list my medications & supplements?
This is very important if herbal medications are going to be dispensed to avoid any herb/drug interactions.  As for massage, there are many reasons for this; and I will mention a few.  Bruising may occur with some types of meds such as blood thinners, including coumadin, aspirin, higher doses of fish oils & vitamin E.  For painkillers, see preceding question.  The application of heat to the muscles is contraindicated with certain meds such as topramin (anti-seizure).  These are just a few examples.

Do you treat minors (under the age of 18)?
Yes! A parent is required to be present in the room while a minor (under 18) is being treated.

Is acupuncture covered under insurance?
Many insurance providers cover acupuncture services; however, Stephanie does not file insurance for acupuncture services. An invoice can be requested at the time of service for the patient to submit to their insurance.

Do you give or accept gift cards?
Gift cards can be purchased by calling Active Chiropractic at (919) 832-3365.
Gift cards for acupuncture are redeemable at the time of service and MUST be brought in with you for your session.

What about gratuities?
Please note that I do not accept gratuities for acupuncture treatments.

What is the late and cancellation policy?
In the event that you are running late, please call or text! If you arrive more than 15 minutes late, your session may need to be shortened or rescheduled. For cancellations, please provide 48 hours notice if you need to cancel or re-schedule.  We are certainly courteous to emergencies. NO SHOW appointments will result in a fee equal to the value of the missed appointment; and must be paid before the next appointment will be scheduled.  If the 'no show' appointment was a gift certificate, the certificate will be considered redeemed.
